Dr. Akena Wannamaker, DPM, is a dedicated and compassionate podiatrist at ASW Foot and Ankle in Richmond, Virginia, where she has been proudly serving patients since May 2024. With a strong foundation in both academic excellence and hands-on clinical training, Dr. Wannamaker is deeply committed to delivering high-quality, individualized care in a space where patients feel safe, heard, and supported.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a pre-medicine concentration from Spelman College, and went on to receive her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Kent State University, graduating in 2020. She completed a comprehensive residency in podiatric medicine and surgery in July 2023, equipping her with the expertise to manage a wide range of foot and ankle conditions—from routine care to complex surgical needs.
Dr. Wannamaker is passionate about fostering a culturally sensitive and inclusive environment, where each patient’s unique needs and background are respected. She believes in building trust through clear communication, compassion, and education—empowering her patients to take an active role in their foot and ankle health.
She is affiliated with Bon Secours and is a proud member of both the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and the Virginia Podiatric Medical Association (VPMA).
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Wannamaker enjoys exploring Richmond’s culinary scene, attending live music events, traveling, and dancing—bringing the same energy and warmth from her personal life into the care she provides every day.
